چکیده

Abstract Objectives Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) is a variant of link-tracing, sampling technique for surveying hard-to-reach communities that takes advantage community members' social networks to reach potential participants. While the RDS mechanism and associated methods adjusting at analysis stage are well-documented in statistical sciences literature, methodological focus has largely been restricted estimation population means proportions, while giving little no consideration network parameters. As network-based method, faced with fundamental problem from where features such as homophily (the tendency individuals similar traits share ties) differential activity ratio average number connections by attribute) sensitive choice method. Methods Many simple approaches exist generate simulated data, specific levels (mainly activity), on estimating proportions (Gile 2011; Gile et al. 2015; Spiller 2018). However, recent findings inconsistency estimators partially observed (Crawford 2017; Shalizi Rinaldo 2013) raise question whether those target can be recovered using data alone – recovering information about these critical if we wish condition upon them. In this paper, conduct simulation study assess accuracy existing methods, terms their abilities samples desired two parameters: activity. Results The results show (1) cannot consistently estimated (2) more precise when groups, defined traits, equally active represented population. We use approach mimic Engage Study, an sample gay, bisexual other men who have sex Montréal, Canada. Conclusions highlight it possible, some cases, simulate mimicking characteristics real-world retaining precision samples.

Respondent-Driven Sampling in Online Social Networks

Abstract. Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) is a commonly used method for acquiring data on hidden communities, i.e., those that lack unbiased sampling frames or face social stigmas that make their members unwilling to identify themselves. Obtaining accurate statistical data about such communities is important because, for instance, they often have different health burdens from the greater popul...

Respondent Driven Sampling

Respondent driven sampling (RDS) is a network sampling technique typically employed for hard-to-reach populations (e.g. drug users, men who have sex with men, people with HIV). Similar to snowball sampling, initial seed respondents recruit additional respondents from their network of friends. The recruiting process repeats iteratively, thereby forming long referral chains. Unlike in snowball sa...

Assessing respondent-driven sampling.

Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) is a network-based technique for estimating traits in hard-to-reach populations, for example, the prevalence of HIV among drug injectors. In recent years RDS has been used in more than 120 studies in more than 20 countries and by leading public health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. Despite the widesp...

Diagnostics for Respondent-driven Sampling.

Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) is a widely used method for sampling from hard-to-reach human populations, especially populations at higher risk for HIV. Data are collected through peer-referral over social networks. RDS has proven practical for data collection in many difficult settings and is widely used. Inference from RDS data requires many strong assumptions because the sampling design is...

Random Walks on Directed Networks: Inference and Respondent-driven Sampling

Respondent driven sampling (RDS) is a method often used to estimate population properties (e.g. sexual risk behavior) in hard-to-reach populations. It combines an effective modified snowball sampling methodology with an estimation procedure that yields unbiased population estimates under the assumption that the sampling process behaves like a random walk on the social network of the population....
